Internal MedicineSpecialists at Metropolitan Veterinary Referral Services

Pets can develop a variety of illnesses that may require the expertise and knowledge of a board certified internal medicine specialist. The internal medicine service at MVRS is a team of doctors and nurses led by a board certified specialist. This team is experienced in diagnosing and managing the complex variety of diseases that can involve the gastrointestinal, cardiac, respiratory, urinary, hematologic and endocrinological systems. MVRS has a highly qualified staff than can provide around the clock care for your pet should he require hospitalization.

The Internal Medicine team works closely with your family veterinarian to consult about your pet's problem and then determine a specific diagnosis. Once a diagnosis has been established specific treatment plans are developed to help your pet recover from its illness. This therapy may commence in the 24 hours continuous monitoring offered at MVRS and then be continued by your family veterinarian after discharge. The team of MVRS doctors and nurses are available for follow up appointments or telephone consultation with you and your veterinarian should problems or questions arise while your pet is recovering from its illness.

The internal medicine service performs frequent abdominal ultrasounds of liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidney, pancreatic, intestinal and bladder problems. Echocardiograms enable the detailed evaluation of heart disease. Video endoscopic procedures enable close examination of the lungs, airways, nose, stomach, small intestine, colon, bladder and reproductive system. We provide treatment plans for many metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, Cushing's disease, Addison's disease and hyperthyroidism.
